About the Coalition

A community partnership to reduce waste and help neighbors in need during student move-out season.

The Ann Arbor Student Move Out Coalition is a partnership between the City of Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan, local nonprofits, and property managers. Every spring and fall, thousands of students leave Ann Arbor — and too often, perfectly good furniture, clothing, and household items end up in landfills.

We coordinate drop-off sites, donation drives, and volunteer cleanups to divert usable goods to community organizations that serve people in need. Last year, we diverted over 51 tons of usable goods from landfills.
